Mel’s Dreams: The Spaceship to Jupiter

I have two types of dreams. Some I’ll remember when I wake up but it’s fleeting and they fade fast. Others are incredibly real and I can remember them for years. Dream interpretation is obviously not an exact science, but any time I’ve looked up one of these “the hills are alive with the sound of music” dreams, it always mirrors what’s going on in my life. I had one of these dreams last night.

I’m chosen as one person to get on a spaceship to Jupiter. While on the way, there’s lots of arguing and fighting. Eventually, I get left behind, just free floating in space, and have to scramble back to an abandoned space station before I run out of air. I manage just on time. The station is bright and clean with no windows, but completely empty. And then I woke up. So what does this all mean? Let’s break it down.

Dreaming of a spaceship traveling to Jupiter symbolizes a major journey toward personal growth, ambition, and spiritual expansion. The spaceship represents your drive to explore the unknown, while Jupiter, known as the planet of luck and wisdom, points to upcoming success, prosperity, and a higher understanding of your life’s purpose. HOWEVER, this dream typically reflects a conflict between your desire for personal growth or escape (the spaceship to Jupiter) and the chaotic, draining dynamics in your waking life (the arguments). It suggests you are trying to navigate big life changes, but feel held back by the people around you. (So far so good. Although I don’t feel held back by people but by the limitations my body and my illness imposes on me.)

After being left behind by the ship: This shift in your dream signifies a sudden feeling of rejection, isolation, or missing out on an important life opportunity. Getting left behind by the ship suggests you feel excluded from a major project, a social group, or a path toward growth. The chaotic fighting you saw earlier likely caused you to lose your grip on the situation, leaving you feeling powerless. Floating completely free in open space represents a total loss of structure, grounding, and control in your life. Being entirely untethered in the void of space amplifies your feelings of vulnerability, but also introduces a profound sense of absolute freedom. Space is cold, vast, and silent. This imagery often surfaces when a person feels profoundly isolated, misunderstood, or completely disconnected from society and the people around them. On the positive side, floating free means you are completely detached from the gravity of everyone else’s expectations, arguments, and baggage. You are lighter, unburdened, and entirely on your own terms. (I’m not entirely sure how these two things mesh. Can I feel alone and misunderstood and be lighter and unburdened at the same time?)

After making it to the station: Making it to the space station just before running out of air represents a narrow escape from total burnout or emotional collapse in your waking life. This dramatic resolution shows that while you are pushing yourself to the absolute limit, your subconscious knows you possess the survival instincts and resilience to save yourself at the final moment. This indicates you may have stayed too long in a toxic situation (the arguing ship) or drifted too long without a plan (floating in space), bringing you dangerously close to a breaking point. Reaching the station wasn’t just a choice, it was a necessity for survival. In your waking life, this mirrors a desperate need to immediately cut out drama, pause your frantic routine, and find a safe space to breathe. (I can relate to this. I often feel severely out of control in my waking life, never knowing what my body will and will not let me do. I sometimes feel like I’m close to breaking, but always seem to stop short of complete collapse. I’ve come very close, too close, but I’ve bounced back.)

In conclusion: You have successfully escaped the toxic crowd on the ship, survived the vulnerable void of space, and found air. However, you are still inside an abandoned station. You have secured your immediate survival and peace of mind, but the long-term question of where you go next remains unanswered. (Yeah, no shit.)

The subconscious always seems to know what’s going on, doesn’t it?

Extension for Review Club

Hey guys. I’ve been surprisingly busy this week, and haven’t even had time to watch this week’s film, so I’m extending it to next wednesday. And I think that I’ll be doing it only bi-monthly. Weekly is kinda rough. So you’ve got another couple of days to both watch and review Beyond Clueless, and to vote on next week’s film. Sorry bout that!!

Review Club, Anyone?

So I’ve been thinking of starting a small review club. For anything, really, but I imagine it’ll be mostly movies, since that really is the easiest thing to review quickly.

I was thinking something like this: You’ve got saturday to friday to watch and review a film. Send me the draft on or before friday at midnight, and I’ll have the post out by the following wednesday (so it’ll always be the film of last week on wednesday). And then maybe once a month, or 6 weeks we can do a book review? How does that sound?

The only rule I’d have is to not make the reviews too long, so people wouldn’t have a 10,000 word post to read every week. Maybe try for between 3 to 6 hundred words, max? I think that could work. Other than that, everything goes. I’ll take suggestions for our weekly film and monthly book all the time, and I’ll pick one at random. Or maybe I could post a list of ten films or so, then have you all vote? Yeah, I kinda like that one better.

So here are a few personal invitations: Eric, Vinnie, Abbi, Zoë, Samm, Emma, Matthew, Katherine, and Frankish.

But of course, everyone and anyone is free to join. Even if they aren’t following me, you can ask friends to join if you like. The more the merrier 🙂

OMG 100 Followers!!!

So I have just reached 100 followers this morning!! I don’t even know what to say, I’m so happy! When I started blogging, I was expecting no more than 10 followers or so, and those to likely be people I already knew. To have 100 of you following me, and only 4 of you being previously known folks, it’s just so amazing! Since I’m kinda speechless at the moment, I’ll let these images speak for me…

Haven’t Been Well

Hey guys.

So, no, I haven’t forgotten about you all. I have just been having an extra rough time lately. My doc called me at home to tell me she needed to see me next week, in 7 years she’s never done that before. So maybe she’ll know why things have been so hard for me lately. Here’s hoping for some answers.

I’m (slowly) working on a post, though, and will try get it up asap 🙂

The Sunshine Award

Sunshine Award

So Natasha over at Films and Things nominated me for this Sunshine Award thingy, and I’m finally getting around to it. I’m so unmotivated lately, it’s really hard for me to make myself do stuff, even stuff I love. But anyways, enough of that, let’s get down to business! I’m kinda crappy at this sort of thing, though, so sorry if my questions suck :-p

The rules for this award are as follows:

Include the Sunshine Award icon in your post and/or on your blog.
Link to the blogger who nominated you.
Answer 10 questions about yourself.
Nominate 10 other bloggers to receive the award.
Link to your nominees and let them know you nominated them.
Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

And here are the questions that Nat asked me:

Q1. What’s your favourite film that most people think is crap and would probably laugh at you for liking?
A. Hmm. I don’t think anyone would laugh at me for my taste in films (well, no one in my real life anyways, netizens don’t count :-p ), but I usually get looked at a little strangely when I admit to loving Josie and the Pussycats. It’s silly, fluffy, and slightly (ok, a lot) ridiculous, but I dunno, I love it! hehe

Q2. If you could pick an actor/actress to play you in a movie about your life, who would you choose?
A. I love both Jen Lawrence and Scarlett J as young actresses, but I look nothing like them, at all. So if I were to choose someone who looked a little more like me, I’d have to go with a young Andie McDowell, or Trini Alvarado. When I let my hair grow and leave it in its natural state, we have the same curls.

Q3. Favourite film genre?
A. Horror, duh :-p

Q4. What TV series are you watching at the moment?
A. I’m currently in season 7 of Criminal Minds.

Q5. What did you last go to the cinema to see?
A. Oh dear, let me think. I used to go to the cinema all the time, but I barely leave the house anymore so I haven’t gone in ages. But lemme see… it was… Gravity. Yup, I’m pretty sure that was it. Which was over a year ago, I think. I really need to get out more…

Q6. What do you want to see in the cinema next?
A. I would really love to see Dracula Untold before it stops playing. I really love the cinema, I should go more. Who wants to be my date?? hehe

Q7. When you go to the cinema do you go for front, middle or back?
A. Between the middle and the back. And right in the middle of the row, if I can.

Q8. What’s your favourite alcoholic drink?
A. I don’t drink, but I do love me some (virgin) strawberry daiquiris. Mmmmm….

Q9. What’s your favourite flavour ice cream?
A. Mango. So good!

Q10. If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
A. One of each. I’m gonna need a bigger home…

So, that was the easy part. Now to come up 10 questions of my own. I’m so bad at this… Ok, here goes:

Q1. What’s your favourite horror movie?
Q2. What do you like doing for fun besides watching tv and movies?
Q3. If you had to pick 5 bands to listen to for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Q4. Have you ever been arrested? If so, why?
Q5. Do you have pets? If so what are they and what are their names?
Q6. Married? Girlfriend? Boyfriend? Lover?
Q7. What food could you eat every day?
Q8. What’s your all-time favourite tv show?
Q9. Who’s your number one celebrity crush?
Q10. If you could travel in time, where would you go, and why?

And that’s it! Oh, right I almost forgot, I have to tag people! I won’t tag 10, just cause, but here’s a few:

Abbi at Where the Wild Things Are
Zoë at The Sporadic Chronicles of a Beginner Blogger
Matthew at Horrorville
Samm at Blood, Lace, and Faeries
Emma at emmakwall (explains it all)

Thanks again to Nat for nominating me, and stay tuned for more!! 🙂

Unmotivated and Bleh

Hi guys!! Sorry I haven’t been posting lately. I don’t really have an excuse except that I’m really unmotivated lately. I’ve been working on a nice, big post, but I always seem to get sidetracked while working on it, so it’s only about half done. But I’ll try my best to get it done soon.

This always seems to happen to me. I get really interested in something, school, books, tv shows, writing, art, therapy, whatever. And no matter how much I like doing it, I always stop. I don’t know why. It has nothing to do with how much I like something, I just always eventually poop out. I’m taking a professional makeup course, for example, and I was so excited when I started, and now it’s just impossible to get myself to do it. And it’s not cause I’m not interested in makeup anymore, I really am. I just… I dunno. I feel so bleh a lot of the time.

And now, the same thing is happening here, and I really don’t want it to. I love blogging. I love making the articles, I love reading your comments and chatting back and forth with our varying opinions. But lately I’ve been finding it harder and harder to work on it. Sometimes I’ll open up the “new post” page, and just stare at it blankly, even though I know exactly what I wanted to write.

Do any of you guys have motivation and depression problems? What do you do to get through it? Let me know, and I’ll see you guys soon… hopefully.
